Please note - due to the coronavirus situation, most service providers are not currently able to offer face to face support.  They may still be offering support via email and telephone and some have moved their groups online in order to comply with social distancing rules.  Some services have temporarily ceased operating.  We apologise if the information provided is out-of-date. 

Nationwide

DEEP Groups
The Dementia Engagement & Empowerment Project (DEEP) brings together groups of people with dementia from across the UK.  DEEP supports these groups to try to change services and policies that affect the lives of people with dementia.  Whilst not young onset specific, many of the DEEP groups are well attended by younger people with dementia.

tide offer a number of online groups to help keep carers connected.  Their UK-wide young onset carers group meet (virtually) on the first Tuesday of every month at 10am.  They provide a safe space for family carers to share their experiences.  The group is free to attend for tide members.

Derbyshire

Chesterfield Walking Group

The young onset walking group was set up in October 2017.  The group runs every Tuesday 9.30-3.00pm and is based at Winster Court, Newland Dale, Stonegravels, Chesterfield, S41 7QJ.

Derby Young Dementia Group

The meetings take place at Elvaston Castle and Country Park on the first Saturday of the month from 10.00am-midday. The key aim is to create a support network of understanding and likeminded, sociable people who are under 65 with dementia.   

Freshers Young Onset Cafes

Meets at Miss Poppy's Coffee Shop on the first Thursday of the month, 10.00am-midday.  The group provides a relaxed, social get-together for people with young onset dementia, Parkinson's and other neurological conditions.

Herefordshire

Young Dementia Herefordshire

A group run by and for people with young onset dementia and their families.  The aim is to support each other - including family members with practical information, signposting and emotional support.   An Admiral Nurse also regularly drops into the sessions to provide support.  Currently meeting on the last Thursday of the month, 10.30am-12.30pm at the Courtyard Theatre in Hereford city centre, in the room behind reception.

An activity group for the family members / carers of people who are living with young onset dementia.  

The Dementia Dare Devils

A peer support group that gives you the opportunity to meet with others who understand some of what you are going through.  Run by a facilitator, the sessions offer a chance for people affected by dementia to ask questions, get information and share experiences in a safe and supportive environment.

Young Onset Dementia App
A resource developed by Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust for younger people who have been diagnosed with dementia.  It is a digital 'app' which can be downloaded free of charge on to a mobile phone or tablet computer.  It brings together up to date information, advice, and inspiration from others who have the condition.

Young Onset Dementia Group

Meeting on the last Thursday of the month, 1.30pm to 3.30pm at the Shuttlewood Clarke Foundation.  A free social group for people under 70 years of age with young onset dementia, their partners, friends, carers and PAs to enjoy. Chat, laughter, support and advice along with activities such as kurling, skittles, table tennis and crafts. Unfortunately, the face to face groups are currently cancelled due to the COVID pandemic, but weekly zoom meetings are being held. 

Lincolnshire

Focus on Dementia

The Alzheimer’s Society run a focus group for younger people living with dementia across North and North East Lincolnshire.  The group is held every fourth Tuesday of the month, 2pm-3pm.  Each month, they discuss a different topic and gather people’s experiences and feedback in order to inform local and national services and influence positive change.  The group is held via Zoom, please click here for more information.

Younger People's Dementia Service

The Younger Persons with Dementia Team team is a countywide service that consists of nurses, occupational therapists, support workers, and admin. The team aims to provide specialist assessment, timely diagnosis, and support for adults under the age of 65 with early-onset dementia. Assessments take place either within clinics or service user’s homes.

Nottinghamshire

Working Age Dementia Group

An informal group for people of working age who are living with dementia, their families and / or carers.  The group meets in the reception area of Lammas Leisure Centre and enjoy tea / coffee, music and indoor bowls for free. The group runs on Tuesdays between 1.30-3.30pm and is fundraising for music therapy sessions and trips out.  The leisure centre is serviced by regular bus routes and disabled parking is available. 

Working Age Dementia Team

The Working Age Dementia Service provides diagnostic and post diagnostic services to people under 65 years of age in Nottinghamshire.  The team offers a specialist multi-disciplinary assessment and diagnostic service and a range of individual and group-based treatments to anyone living with young onset dementia, with an emphasis on maintaining skills, living well and promoting peer support.  Download leaflet here.

Dementia Connect, from Alzheimer’s Society, is a new personalised support service for anyone with dementia, their carers, families and friends.  Whilst not young onset dementia specific, they can connect you to a whole range of dementia support, by phone, online and face to face.  It’s free, easy to access, and puts you in touch with their dementia advisers who will offer you the support you need, from local help to telephone and online advice.

Meets fortnightly at West Bromwich Baptist Church. Every group is run by Occupational Therapists and their main focus is encouraging participation in meaningful activities and providing advice and support to help people live well with dementia.  Family members / carers are very welcome to attend.

Young Onset Dementia Service

Younger Persons Activity Group

Group meets on the second Tuesday of every month at The Kenrick Centre, Harborne between 11.30-2.30pm and includes entertainment and a light lunch. It is for younger people with dementia and their carers or people can come individually should they wish to.
