Tim runs Edinburgh Marathon in aid of YoungDementia UK and his friend and colleague Des. Read about Tim's motivation for taking part in a marathon.
Many of you will know and will have worked with my friend and colleague, Des O’Sullivan. Des project-managed and edited many of my books over the past 30 years, and his unfailing good humour, professionalism and ability to meet the tightest of deadlines were second to none.
You may also be aware that Des was diagnosed almost two years ago with young-onset Lewy Body Dementia. Lewy Body Dementia is the second most frequent cause of age-related neurodegenerative dementia. Over 42,000 people diagnosed with dementia in the UK are aged between 30 and 65, around 10% of them have Lewy Body Dementia.
Dementia has forced Des to take early retirement from his publishing work. However, Des is facing this new and very difficult challenge with all his customary energy and positivity. Typically of Des, he is determined to help others who find themselves similarly afflicted by young-onset dementia. He is busy raising awareness of young-onset dementia and publicising the work of a charity called YoungDementia UK, which supports people with young-onset dementia and their families.
On Sunday 26th May 2019, I am going to run the Edinburgh Marathon to raise money for Des’s chosen charity, YoungDementia UK. Des and I would be sincerely grateful if you could sponsor my run as generously as you can here
Thank you all for your kind support.
