Please note - due to the coronavirus situation, most service providers are not currently able to offer face to face support.  They may still be offering support via email and telephone and some have moved their groups online in order to comply with social distancing rules.  Some services have temporarily ceased operating.  We apologise if the information provided is out-of-date. 

A Friendly Face

A Friendly Face provides one to one support for a person diagnosed with younger onset dementia.  The person offering support will themselves also has a diagnosis of dementia ensuring empathy, understanding and a sharing of knowledge. 

Age Connects Torfaen Young onset Dementia Service

Provides a drop in service, ceramics café and weekly activity programme for people aged between 40-65yrs, with either a memory loss or a young onset dementia diagnosis  They also provide a respite service for carers and monthly carer support group. At the Widdershins Centre on the last Monday of the month between 1pm-3pm there is an Alzheimer's Society run carer support group and Age Connects Torfaen activity session.  Also see other Torfaen groups listed below.

Two regular carer support groups for people affected by young onset.  There is a group for the adult children / grandchildren of those with a diagnosis of young onset dementia at Oldwell Court, Ty Gwyn Road, Penylan, Cardiff, CF23 5DA and a carers group specifically for those caring for someone under the age of 65 at the SandMartin Pub, Leckwith, Cardiff, CF11 8WD.

An art activity group for people aged under 65, takes place at St Davids Road, Cwmbran, NP44 1PD.

Chris Roberts
North Wales.  Chris is a Dementia Friends Champion and is living with young onset Alzheimer's disease.  He is willing to talk to people who are newly diagnosed, or who want to learn more about dementia.

The community support service is for people aged under who need support to carry on doing the things they enjoy or to try new activities.  This may include support with some daily living activities, as well as leisure and social activities. The service is based on an individual assessment and can be provided at home or in the community.

DEEP Groups
The Dementia Engagement & Empowerment Project (DEEP) brings together groups of people with dementia from across the UK.  DEEP supports these groups to try to change services and policies that affect the lives of people with dementia.  Whilst not young onset specific, many of the DEEP groups are well attended by younger people with dementia.

The Dementia Cafe provides information for people aged under 65 and their family and friends about living with dementia and other services available locally in an informal and comfortable environment.  A Dementia Café is also a place to relax, socialise and meet other people with dementia and their carers.  Takes place at Llanyravon Way Llanyravon, Cwmbran NP44 8RA

Dementia support workers offer information and practical guidance to help people understand young onset dementia, cope with day-to-day challenges and prepare for the future.  They offer support face to face, over the phone or in writing.

Me, Myself & I Club

Not specifically for younger people, but have members of all ages.  The group provides emotional support, reassurance and opportunities for the person and or their family living with memory loss to socialise in a relaxed and friendly setting.  Offers a range of daytime activities throughout the week.  Download a leaflet here.  

Service for Younger People with Dementia (SYD) 
Flintshire.  Contact number to access the service is via First Contact Tel 01352 702000.  The service covers the whole of Flintshire and includes a Resource Centre for younger people with dementia.

Activity group for people aged under 65, their family and friends to give people affected by dementia the opportunity to take part in structured activities.  Run by a facilitator, who encourages and supports people to take part, the groups are also a chance to relax and socialise. Takes place at Avondale Road, Pontrhydyrun, Cwmbran NP44 1DE.

The Old Brewery

The Old Brewery is a specialist day service and resource centre for younger people with dementia.  The centre opened in 2008, and was the first of its kind in Wales.

The Younger Onset Dementia Service

Professionals from The Younger Onset Dementia Service facilitate a variety of sessions which provide opportunities to meet with other younger people living with a dementia diagnosis.  A Carers Social Group meets every month at a local public house / restaurant for coffee and mutual support .  There is also a monthly evening social / support group for anyone who has a parent or grandparent with younger onset dementia and a popular monthly Walking Group.  For more information please view their Service showcase page here.

Group for younger people with dementia that meets at 6.00pm in The Cob and Pen pub, Rhyl on the 2nd Thursday of every month.  
There is also a non-age specific social group for anyone with dementia or memory issues and their family members that meets at 6.00pm on the last Tuesday of every month at the Halcyon Quest Hotel, Gronant Road, Prestatyn.  Whilst not age specific, the large majority of the group are living with young onset.

The Cardiff and Vale University Health Board Younger Onset Dementia Service is a specialist and dedicated service for people who receive a diagnosis of dementia under the age of 65, and for their carers and families.
