The Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust’s Working Age Dementia Service provides diagnostic and post diagnostic services to people under 65 years of age in Nottinghamshire. The team offers a specialist multi-disciplinary assessment and diagnostic service. They also provide a range of both one to one, and group-based post-diagnostic treatments to anyone living with young onset dementia, with an emphasis on maintaining skills, living well and promoting peer support.
As well as their treatment groups, there are now three peer support hubs up and running, two in North Nottinghamshire (Sutton in Ashfield and Southwell) and one in Nottingham itself. As yet they are still quite small but the service users and carers who attend have formed really supportive bonds and friendships. The hubs are informal and are open to people with young onset dementia and their friends, family and carers; they were initiated and set up by the Working Age Dementia Team Peer Support Lead but it is envisaged that they will gradually become fully autonomous and peer led.
The Working Age Dementia Service covers the whole of Nottinghamshire and can be contacted on 0115 956 0884.
